Surgery Holidays

Have you heard of the recent trend of taking trips across the world to get Cosmetic Surgery abroad? If the thought has crossed your mind or you’re considering it make sure to continue reading as you may be surprised of some recent discoveries of the popular fad. The new trend of Medical Tourism is stirring up both fans and opponents of this crazed idea. The perks seem compelling and hard to pass up but the disadvantages may have you take a second look before you jump on a plane and venture out of the country for surgery.

Destinations such as Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Philippines and other Asian Countries offer excursion packages for patients willing to travel overseas for cosmetic surgery for a lower price. These prices are often 50% cheaper than surgeries here in the states. They advertise extravagant vacations and hotels that you can enjoy at the same time that you are fixing up your body and then returning home with a brand new you. Some people think it’s a great way to keep their surgeries a secret from family members or friends back home until they come home with their final results.

These arguments might be convincing but there are some serious and severe consequences that can be paid by taking one of these “trips.” Most importantly the laws and medical requirements as well as the facilities in particular countries often don’t come close to the laws and regulations that the surgeons must follow here in the United States. What we consider a flawless surgery here may be completely different for surgeons abroad. Even here in the United States credentials and Board Certifications are extremely important and need to be evaluated before choosing a Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon.

There have been numerous reports of surgeries abroad that have led to more harm than benefit. The results are not what patients wanted and their left feeling abandoned in a different country the moment things go wrong. You often don’t have the opportunity to return to your treating surgeon for follow-up appointments and you don’t get the opportunity to build a continued relationship with them. There are many accounts that conclude that patients who take these excursion medical trips often come back with post-operative problems and need reconstructive surgery from their surgeons back home. Thus adding up the costs and ultimately paying more than the initial surgery would have been back in the States. Furthermore, how can you fully enjoy a vacation while you’re in pain recovering from a surgery?

Surgery can absolutely go wrong anywhere but wouldn’t you want to be surrounded by family and loved ones as well as a Board Certified and highly trained local Plastic Surgeon? So instead of signing up for one of these persuasive Surgery Holidays protect yourself and your body.
